8. The question as to whether wireless should

·

compete with cables, is at the present moment being

largely kept before the public, chiefly I am afraid,

by interested parties, who are more concerned with

putting shares up and dom rather than the interests

of the public, but I would say for the benefit of any

person that feels influenced by this aspect, that in

my opinion the cable company are quite safe for many

years to come, that they will have to be content with

less profit is most likely, but that they will be

reduced to an uneconomical state is I think unlikely.

This question is really outside my sphere, but I do

know that locally a considerable amount of wild rumour

is about, most of which is quite unjustified.

9.

During 1927 two small short wave transmitters were

constructed in our workshops and put into use, one

with Manila and one with French Indo-China, they

worked satisfactorily and had a marked effect on our revenue,

10. At the present moment we are working many of

our services via Manila, with the result that a

considerable portion of our fees are passed to this

Manila Station, and although as will be seen from the

statement of Revenue and Expenditure our revenue has

increased considerably, it will increase far more

considerably when our plant is extended and we work

direct, not only with Java, but also Japan and other

countries equally distant.
